First Substitute Teaching Assignment

I start my very first substitute teaching gig Monday. It’s a one-day assignment at Chualar School. Chualar is a small rural community with one school and mostly farm-labor Hispanic residents.  My poco Espanol will help.  This is a one-day assignment paying $140, which I presume will be about $100 after taxes.

This came out of the blue as Chualar is not one of the school districts I’d applied to yet. Apparently, the county Education Department put my name out and I got called.

Earlier today, I got a call to schedule an appointment with my Elementary school alma-mater. Alisal School District to get set up to be hired to do sub work. I’m currently playing telephone tag with the HR rep.

Things are looking up.
